After a bit of trouble finding a place to stay toward the western edge
of the city, we found ourselves in downtown Vienna. Smack in the
middle, you'll find Vienna most famous cathedral, St. Stephen's.

Vienna's character is a fantastic mix of new and old. Buildings like
St. Stephen's, blacked by car exhaust, sit next to modern buildings
and governmental palaces alike. Vienna's colorful political past and
amazing cultural background make it an extraordinary place.

St. Stephen's is TALL.

The detail in this place is amazing.

The main altar.

A shot down from the rear choir. It almost looks like a stone forest.

We of course had to climb that really, really tall tower. Well, Carl had to
climb it. Faith was dragged along for the ride. But the view from the top
was worth it.

The central area of Vienna is encircled by a series of canals and is known as
The Ring. It is filled with ostentatious buildings and statues... a lasting tribute
to the power of the Habsburg dyanasty.

It's a maze of museums, plazas and public buildings.
