A new era has begun, the drunken times of our youth are no more.  We no longer require liqueur to be the fuel for our fire, we demand it!!!.

Many of us look different now from when we first walked, or most likely stumbled into the Phi Beta house.  God knows, once people are their stumbling is the norm. As our looks have changed so have our hearts and minds, many of us are married if not dating, or at least having someone to call on a cell phone when traveling.  Some of us are larger, smaller, thinner on top even funnier and all of us will some day have liver problems.  I digress. Many momentary lapses in conversations (a lull) have been saved by the consumption of beer, or at minimum a drunken Chuck or Kelleigh (very humorous when she is drunk) to ignite a new discussion.

I must proclaim now a new chapter in the history of Phi Beta.  We now can have intelligent, political, philosophical (see dictionary), emotional, thought provoking conversations about the world in which we live (beer is a must).  I am at this point not ashamed of my Phi Beta friends, but in many ways proud to be associated with such upstanding citizens.  To think over 10 years ago many of us were in very different places in our lives, most living in Boston.  Look at us today, we are very much united, yet living all over the country.   To quote one of our countries greatest entertainers Yakov Smirnoff  "what a country!!!!!"

Now, this era has just begun and the work must continue.  Your commitment to the cause is the key to sustaining the tremendous momentum we now have. Be proud of your achievements, but do not stand on past glory.  We must look ahead and continue to write a new history.  When we look back at the past, smile and enjoy the moment, but do not become complacent. Our vision must be of the future.

Sincerely,
Dave McCarthy
Minister of History
